Herb Urban Community - Our Classic Pesto 🌿

We LOVE basil, one of the best, most classic uses, is in a classic pesto recipe.


Classic Basil Pesto

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed

  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan-Reggiano cheese

  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1/3 cup pine nuts

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Toast the pine nuts in a dry pan over medium heat until golden brown, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Remove from heat and let cool.

  2. In a food processor, or blender, pulse the basil and pine nuts until coarsely chopped.

  3. Add the minced garlic and Parmesan cheese, and pulse again until well combined.

  4. While the food processor is running, slowly pour in the olive oil until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

  6. Serve the pesto on top of your favorite pasta, or use as a spread on bread or crackers.

HOT TIP: blanch the basil in an ice bath prior to blending to esnure it stays green for longer!

This classic basil pesto is simple to make and is perfect for tossing with pasta or spreading on bread. The combination of fresh basil, Parmesan cheese, and pine nuts creates a deliciously creamy and flavorful sauce that is sure to please.
